Simple Present

I made my kids many gifts this year. As they’ve gotten older, and play less with toys, we’re focusing more on silly, but useful, gifts — things you couldn’t necessarily buy. This idea came from The Prudent Homemaker.

Simple Bookmarks

These were simple to make — a list of words that describe or are special to each of my children. Printed on card stock and laminated. Finished with a tassel in their favorite color. While the idea of giving a bookmark might seem boring, my kids have loved these. They are avid readers so bookmarks are always useful. Even more, is that these ones are special and a daily reminder of why they are unique to us.

You triggered an old memory of a bookmark my mom gave me. It wasn’t handmade, it was just a drugstore purchase that said some stock phrase like “you are my sunshine”, but I kept it for a long time. Somehow, it was comforting to me and a bookmark was an acceptable token to keep. She wasn’t a demonstrative person.
