Last Sunday, we did one of my favorite May activities — strawberry picking!
The kids had a blast sampling the berries and hunting for ones that were perfectly ripe — or in the case of my eldest son, perfectly under-ripe. He likes them slightly white — tart with some crunch. We brought home four flats of berries and immediately set to work hulling them. It’s nice having a child old enough to be truly helpful in the kitchen. I introduced Duncan to the science of canning.
We made one batch (8 jars) of hot-water canned jam and 2 batches of freezer jam. We still have berries leftover. Maybe another batch of jam is in our near future.
