Handmade Gifts

I had high hopes for this gift.  While in New Orleans, we sampled a lot of homemade old fashioned fudge from all the touristy shops.  How hard can it be, we thought?  After we got home, Duncan and I set out to make our own.  Only it didn’t work.

This is one gift that I didn’t give.  I had to chisel it out of the pan.  I’m not sure what went wrong.  Maybe we didn’t watch the candy thermometer closely enough?  Or maybe the thermometer was just plain wrong (I never did check to see if it was true to temperature…..).  One thing is certain — this is the worst fudge I’ve ever seen or tasted.

Amid a kitchen full of holiday baking and cooking, I guess one flop, a GIANT flop, isn’t too bad.

Wow, what recipe did you use? I always go with Allrecipes.com and look for the one with 4 or more stars and 100+ reviews if I can find one.
