What to do with leftover candy

Bake cookies, of course!  I made a basic cookie dough and each child got to decide what their “magic mix-ins” were.  We wound up with Kit-Kats, snickers, and skittles.  They named “their” cookies.  DNA named his “mine.”

Then we had a taste test and voted for our favorite.  Any guesses which one won?  All three kids liked Skittles best.  Me?  I’m all about the Kit-Kats.

The recipe:

  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • about 1-2 cups chopped candy or candy pieces

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cream butter and sugars together.  Add eggs and vanilla.  Stir together the flour, salt and baking powder.  Add to the creamed butter mix.  At this point, I divided the dough into thirds and let each kid add the amount of candy they wanted to.  Drop by the spoonful onto cookie sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes.  Makes 3 dozen cookies.

You’re a cook after my own heart. I also think baking cookies is a great way to use up the extra candy. I would never have thought to use Skittles but I like the idea.

I made the kit kat ones for my student teacher and they look funky. Yours look much more appetizing and pretty. But mine still worked out fine and taste yummy. I also already had all the ingredients at home minus the kit kats. Thank you so much for this simple recipe!

Im thinking of trying to make these but im wondering does it matter about the flavour of the skittles and is there any tips you could give on how not to mess up baking cookies?

We just used a random jumble of flavors. My kids loved them but they love everything cookie! The only tips I have about baking cookies is use real butter, use parchment paper and keep an eye on them after 8 minutes in the oven. Good luck!
