Twelve

Last week DNA had a birthday.

He had a few friends over for a sleepover.  Why these all-night gatherings are called sleepovers, I don’t know.  There was not much sleep happening.  There was lots of snack raiding, soda drinking, movie watching, and laughing.  I’d say it was a success.

It’s kind of sad to see my first child growing so big already.  Next year he’ll be a teenager.  I swear he was just a toddler, happy to snuggle in to read for hours with me.  And while he’s still very happy to read for hours, the snuggles with momma are becoming fewer and far between.  Since I can’t stop this growing up and growing away, I can marvel at the person he’s becoming as he matures.  He has a great heart, this boy of mine.  I see kindness in him every day — certainly in the way he treats his siblings and others.  Though my time of holding him close and drinking him in is waning, the moments when he does stretch out next to me –head on my shoulder, book in his hand– are made all the more sweet for their scarcity.

Happy Birthday, sweet boy!

Happy Birthday DNA! Jessie’s birthday was last Sunday and I can’t even fathom her turning 12.

You raise some good kids and D is no exception. He’s turning into such a polite smart young man.
