Big Chicken

29 Mar 2010 by admin, 2 Comments »

A few days ago, I stumbled upon a chicken pattern at www.ikatbag.com.  I went crazy over it’s cuteness and had to make one.  I dug through my fabric but nothing was right.  I didn’t want to go fabric shopping because I wanted to make that bird and make it NOW.  So, I used a cast-off felted sweater.

And this chicken is everything I thought it would be — big, squeezable, and soft.  While it was not easy to make (hello, seam ripper!), it was worth all the effort.  The best part?  The bottom.

Yep, this bird can lay an egg.  How clever is that?  Now that I’ve made one, I want to make more, more more.  John’s sweater stash may be in danger.

I *love* the idea of sewing with a cast off felted sweater. I have many a sweater that has been inadvertently felted, and I couldn’t bear to throw away. Great idea!
